Performance and live remix for Coca-Cola and the Olympics
Client: Coca-Cola and the Olympics
Role: Composition, production, performance
In 2011, Coca-Cola and the Olympics approached me and my brother to create a performance and a live remix using ‘sounds of sport’, the Coca-Cola theme and the Olympic theme with Mark Ronson and Katy B.
The Challenge
Coca-Cola approached us with an idea to record over 400 samples of Olympic sports players - from table tennis paddles hitting ping pong balls, to chalk on the rings.
Once they were captured, we then created a simple touch screen interface to play them back live, in collaboration with Coca-Cola.
This ‘tablet’ was then used to play back the samples in the performance.
We were then tasked with creating a live performance piece incorporating the ‘sounds of sport’.
Live. In one take. with nothing pre-recorded - every singe time - in front of crowds from 20,000 - 85,000 people across the country. The piece was written in collaboration with Mark Ronson and Katy B who had written the original.
Please enjoy this audience handheld recording of the event, as there was never an official video made!
Live performance at Hyde Park, 2012
The Result
We did a live looping hybrid electronic performance that toured the UK with the Olympic Torch, culminating at Hyde Park to 85,000 people. It was pure insanity to look out on that crowd and so much fun to tour with that production across the UK and generally be a part of something as momentous as the Olympics!
