Music production with Cher and Paul Berry

A song of mine was pitched to be included on Cher’s 2013 album ‘Closer to the Truth’. This song was a few years old at this point, and already doing quite well for my band, but now Cher was knocking at the door. They wanted to use this song on her new record but they needed some tweaks first to make it fit in her style.
The Challenge
Cher and her team were very interested in the song but they needed some parts written with her structures in mind. We were linked with Paul Barry (if you don’t know Paul Barry, get on Google, he is a living pop legend!). We spent 2 days working on every intricate part of the song to bring the most out of the chords, the structure, arrangement, harmony and lyrics.

The Result
It was amazing to be working on something like this with Paul Barry. Especially since this song had been well-established for years in my band’s live repertoire, we couldn’t have imagined anything else being brought out of it – but Paul has the ears of an old-school pro. He suggested sections and improvements all over, and between us we managed to elevate it to an even more interesting electro-pop song! Have a listen!
